Getting the Best out of your Digital Camera - A Digital Photography Course with Ian and Karen Stewart
August 17-22, 2008

Are you confused by all the options on your digital camera? Are your pictures just not turning out the way you would like them? Do you need help with getting those memorable underwater images? Ian and Karen will guide you through the ins and outs of digital photography in an ideal location for practicing what you learn. The course will begin on Sunday August 17th following diving and lunch. It will last for 5 afternoons and will not impact your diving in any way. Topics to be covered include:

  1. The Basics of Exposure – shutter speed, aperture, ISO, WB, resolution and size
  2. Wide Angle or Telephoto – which setting or lens for what shot
  3. Camera Components – cards, battery, lens changing and color space
  4. Taking a picture – focus point, drive mode, meter reading and flash settings
  5. Getting the best exposure – histograms - your best friend
  6. Composition – some tried and true rules for getting the best compositions underwater and on land
  7. What to do with the images – getting the pictures out of the camera and into print or onto the web

Although this course is geared towards underwater photographers it is also appropriate for those just wanting to do land photography. Cost for the course is $200 US. It is recommended that you have your own camera and housing (if you are shooting underwater). Pirates Point Resort will have available a limited number of cameras for rent at a special package price of $100 for the entire time.
